About
SIDS
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause
of death among babies under one year of age. Although
no one is really sure why some babies die of SIDS while
others don't, one way to reduce the likelihood of SIDS
is to place babies on their backs to sleep - not their
tummies. You might also be putting your baby at risk
if you:
Co-sleep
with your baby while under the influence of alcohol
or drugs
Smoke
during pregnancy, or allow smoking indoors around your
baby
Place
your baby to sleep on adult beds - especially on duvets
or quilts - or in cribs with poorly-fitting or soft
mattresses
Turn
the thermostat in your baby's room up too high (if the
room feels too warm for you, it's probably too warm
for your baby)
