Falls are the most common cause of hospital visits among young children. Each year in British Columbia, nearly 700 children are injured due to falls. Because their heads are heavy compared to the rest of their bodies, babies and toddlers tend to fall head-first.

In the living room, watch out for potential dangers such as top-heavy furniture (a climbing hazard); corners of coffee tables; fireplace hearths, loose rugs and slippery wooden floors. Never leave your baby unattended on furniture. A baby likes to wriggle and can easily fall off a couch or chair.
